Rockers Review

1. How does the main character, Leroy "Horsemouth" Wallace, compare to the other main characters (Ivan Martin and Derrick Thompson) in the first two films we saw?

"Horsemouth" lives in Jamaica, works and lives through music industry, one of the most important industries in Jamaica, this may be considered as one of the points that can characterize "Horsemouth" in difference from Ivan (that he still is looking for that dream to achieve) and Derrick (principally moving between soccer and boxing, both sports that Jamaica are good at it). Maybe the sexism is a thing in this film and something important that we can talk as an audience, Leroy demonstrate his stupidity with his wife and children, avoiding them and using money that can be useful for his family for personal issues.

2. Did you like or dislike the film? Why/Why not?

I really like the film but in a technical context, maybe its argument was something that I don't feel very attached to it but I really enjoy some takes and shots that we can saw as context for all Leroy universe, the reggae industry and the people moving living their lives without any outside intervention, just if we are watching a documentary. Reading about this film I discovered the real intentions for this film: a documentary about reggae culture, I really think the Director should continue with that intention.

3. In conclusion to our Jamaican film unit, which was your favorite film of all 3? Why?

Besides all his argument (maybe not the finale because I always love a robin hood-esque conclusion) I really enjoy Rockers much more than "The Harder They Come" and "Ghett'a life" all because its shots. I really enjoy a movie when it have a real good photography and Rockers is the case, all the action involve was funny and easy to watch, not a tedious one like "Ghett'a life". Thanks for the movies! was really fun watching them.
